Neurontin (gabapentin) is an anticonvulsant medication predominantly used to prevent seizures. It is also frequently used to control certain types of pain, and less commonly patients may buy Neurontin to treat a range of other conditions.

Treatment is often long-term, and in many situations other medications will be given along with Neurontin. With doctor supervision the drug may be given to patients as young as 3, though those between 3 and 12 years of age are more prone to mood-altering side effects.

The active ingredient gabapentin is used in veterinary medicines to treat similar conditions. Be aware that formulations for human consumption often contain inactive ingredients that may be toxic to other species; do not buy Neurontin for use in animals.

Product Overview

Neurontin comes in capsules which contain 100 mg, 300 mg, or 400 mg of gabapentin. Capsules may be opened and mixed in beverages or soft foods that do not need to be chewed. Taking with food is completely optional, however, though drinking a glass of fluid is recommended with each dose.

The medication is usually taken daily. Total daily doses are usually broken into two or three smaller doses, taken at intervals of at least 4 hours apart but not more than 12 hours apart.

When used long-term, for more than a few weeks, it is important that treatment not be disrupted; be sure to buy Neurontin refills before running out in case there is difficulty getting resupplied.

Likewise, when the medication is used for more than a few weeks, treatment should not end abruptly or the condition may worsen. Instead, dosage should be gradually lowered over several weeks, unless instructed otherwise by a doctor.

Using Neurontin

This medication may be prescribed to treat a number of conditions:

  • To prevent certain types of seizures, including focal, mixed or generalized seizures;
  • To provide neuropathic pain relief, such as from postherpetic neuralgia, central neuropathic pain, diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, cancer, spinal injuries, and others;
  • Various off-label uses to treat menopausal symptoms, uremic pruritus in liver failure, restless leg syndrome, insomnia, anxiety disorders, and others.

The majority of patients buy Neurontin as a preventive treatment for seizures. Treatment is similar in all cases, but dosage will need to be adjusted for the best results in individuals:

  • Most patients are started on 900 to 1800 mg per day.
  • Each daily dose should be divided into 3 smaller doses.
  • Daily doses may be increased up to 2400 per day if lower doses do not produce good results.
  • Rarely doses may increase to 3600 mg per day; do not exceed this amount.
  • Time between doses should be at least 4 hours apart but not be more than 12 hours apart.

Treatment is more variable when Neurontin is used for pain relief, in both dosage and duration of treatment; it may be taken for just a few days when conditions flare up, or it may be taken daily for years in chronic pain:

  • Patients are typically started on a single 300 mg dose on day one.
  • On day two, 600 mg is taken, divided into two 300 mg doses.
  • On day three, 900 mg is taken, divided into three 300 mg doses.
  • Dosage may be increased to 1800 mg per day if lower levels are ineffective, divided into 3 doses.
  • Time between doses should be at least 4 hours apart but not be more than 12 hours apart.

There are no widely-accepted dosage & administration guidelines for off-label uses.
